Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: How should microgreens be stored? A: Microgreens are best stored in the produce drawer of the fridge in the packaging in which they are sold, and they last for about a week.
Q: How can microgreens be used? A: Microgreens are delicious eaten raw in salads, on sandwiches, or as garnish on prepared dishes, but they’re also amazing in soups, stews, pies, sauteed with garlic and olive oil, or even blended into fruit smoothies!
Q: Do microgreens need to be washed? A: Our microgreens are grown in a clean, sterile indoor evironment, and are tossed with a light sanitizing spray of food-safe hydrogen peroxide after harvest. So NO, you don’t need to wash your microgreens!
Q: Are microgreens the same as sprouts? A: Microgreens aren’t sprouts, they’re technically seedlings! Sprouts are germinated in standing water and then sold without any planting as starchy pale stalks. Microgreens, on the other hand, are planted in soil and then grown for about a week or two until their first true leaves (or cotyledons) emerge. They have much more flavor, a much less starchy texture, and boast much more concentrated levels of key vitamins and nutrients than sprouts.
Q: Do microgreens taste like the vegetables they will eventually grow into? (e.g kale microgreens - mature kale) A: Microgreens range from intensely flavorful to sweet and mild, and while they DO taste like their mature counterparts (in fact, the flavor is often concentrated!), they are much less bitter and fibrous than mature vegetables. They strike a perfect balance between mild and bursting with flavor; they’re crunchy and crisp but also tender and easy to chew and digest. From sweet pea shoots, to spicy radish, to bold and nutty arugula, there are microgreen varieties for all your favorite veggies and flavors!
